Summary: Cartoon version of Cannabis Alchemy. Both books are dated.
Comment: OK, here is the lowdown on this book from my experiences with using it. A long time ago I got this book and "Cannabis Alchemy" by D. Gold to help me turn my stash into something a bit better. This review covers both books because they explain the same things. "Atomic's" is done in cartoon illustration form. "Cannabis Alchemy" is mostly text.

If you buy weed then don't bother with this book because it is not going to get you anywhere. Keep your weed as it is. If you want to perform some type of THC extraction then what you need to be doing is growing the herb first and more importantly - a resinous type herb that produces plenty of trichomes and is sticky to touch. If you use herb that does not produce a lot of trichomes then the extraction methods are useless and you end up with nothing like I did.

Basically after harvest you will have lots of trim leaves left over and it is this that you should be using to make hash oil and not bud although you can use the bud too. Anyway, a long time ago this book showed me how to extract cannabinoids from cannabis using various chemicals that extract cannabinoids from less useful plant materials such as leaf, stem and seeds. At the time the writer was using Acetate as his main chemical agent for performing the extraction and it does work well but there are problems with Acetate extraction. The biggest problem I have with Acetate extraction is that it does not remove all the cannabinoids from the plant material and a lot of it is left behind. Also the procedure for using Acetate is long and laborious. If you want to learn more about Acetate extraction then this is the book to get but there are better methods out there.

One of the new books I got recently was the Cannabis Grow Bible by a writer called Greg Green and in the back he has much better detailed Butane and Water extraction methods that are far better to use than Acetate and produce a much better end product. I rarely use Acetate anymore now that I have discovered these new methods. By the way here is a breakdown on the type of extraction techniques I have been using. 100 plants using Acetate extraction from the trim will produce between 2 and 3 ounces of Hash Oil provided that the plant was resinous like an Afghani plant. 100 Plants using butane extraction will produce about 8 ounces of Hash Oil from the same and water extraction will produce anywhere between 10 and 20 ounces of high quality hashish from the trim. If you want to use the bud then it will go much higher than that.

Even though this book is somewhat good it certainly does not increase potency. Cannabis Alchemy had the same problem. We are being told to preheat cannabis in an oven so it crumbles easier. This only destroys some of the much need cannabinoids that you want. Just dry your harvest in a dark room away from any light and you will be able to crumble up your cannabis is no time. Then we are told how cannabis can be pounded into powder. Compressing resin will only destroy cannabinoids. What remains is a small book about how to extract THC from cannabis using Acetate... or at least some of it! The acetate extraction method described in this book is now somewhat obsolete. The same goes for Cannabis Alchemy. Obsolete and dated on both counts. I just use the acetate process in cleaning out my butane extraction instruments for oil residue. The full melt water extraction technique is the way to go though. That is the true extraction method of the pros. So reading this review again you should know where to go if you want to learn those much better methods.

Get this book anyway because you will probably want to learn a little about Acetate extraction but just remember that there are much more better methods now available.

Summary: Good, but "Cannabis Alchemy" is better.
Comment: This book and D Gold's "Cannabis Alchemy" describe basically the same proccesses, but "Cannabis Alchemy" has better illustrations, more information, and more lucid prose.

Summary: AN EXCELLENT WEALTH OF INFORMATION, BUT......
Comment: There are many people who have been very critical of this book. This is completely undeserved. This book deals with the process of turning regular everyday herb into both hash oil and hashish with cartoons and easy to understand 'baby' directions.

The method described in this book really works! It can help you take any plain Mary Jane (both high grade sativa and low grade kack) and create some very potent hash oil and hash (increasing in potency by 6 to 12 times on the Adam scale from what you started with).

...Dr. Atomic has a really useful and easy to follow cartoon drawing which uses kitchen utensils like a wok and soup pot... I would like to point out however that this book only deals with part of the process described in Cannabis Alchemy. It covers the chapters on making hash oil that is either (a) a crude extract or (b) a purified isomerized extract. From this you can also make hash - Dr. atomic breaks Gold's seven recipes down to four simple ones). Dr. Atomic does not bother describing the acetate process mentioned in Cannabis Alchemy. This is a disappointment but understandable... For some really incredible smoke expect about 25-30 hours of pretty well continuous work. The benefits are the increase in potency, far less toxins ingested and some incredible bragging rights :)
