Summary: Buy a rhyming dictionary instead.
Comment: This book is beyond simple.
The intructions consist of 1 1/2 pages of vague ideas such as "treat each word family like a game," and "reward /the child's/ accomplishment in some manner."
There are no suggestions on how.
The rest of the book is 100 lists of 5 to 15 words in each word family.
I was expecting to get more information than what I can look up myself off the internet or in my own dictionaries.
Also, the quality of the paper and cover of the book is low. It does not look worth the price I paid for it.
Not impressive. Not worth the money.
If you just want a list of word families, I suggest "The Scholastic Rhyming Dictionary" by Sue Young for about half the cost to achieve a similar effect.

Comment: Just wanted to send a quick note to let you know we think your book is great! It brought back many memories to me from grade school when the teacher would have a class contest by giving the class a large word and seeing who could make the most words out of the letters in that word. I loved it because it seemed I always won, and my technique was (just by coincidence) by making all the "word familes" I could and then going down the alphabet with each one. You did a great job of presenting the various families with simple exercises any child could pick up on. Christina and Sherry were here briefly (we were to have Christina here while Sherry was staying downtown for a conference - this was cut short by last Tuesday's national tragedy), but I went over the first page with Christina (who loves to make rhymes) and it went great - the book will be a big asset to all learning to read. ...........Author's Note: She is only three years old, but very bright!

Comment: Robert's Treasury of Word Families for Phonics Fun for New Readers
1. IT DOES FOR READING WHAT FLASH CARDS DO FOR ARITHMETIC.
2. SIMPLICITY MAKES IT USER FRIENDLY.
3. IT BUILDS A VERY SOUND FOUNDATION WITHOUT BEING SO EXTENSIVE THAT IT IS OVERWHELMING.
4. IT IS A CHILD'S BOOK, NOT A TEACHER'S BOOK.
5. CHILDREN LIKE IT! CHILDREN FIND IT CHALLENGING!
6. BY BUILDING ON A FAMILIAR BASE ( THE WORD ROOT) THE CHILD MORE EASILY ADVANCES ONE STEP AT A TIME.
7. IT ALLOWS THE CHILD TO READ MANY NEW WORDS QUICKLY.
8. CHILDREN DEVELOP THE METHODOLOGY OF SOUNDING OUT NEW WORDS,WHICH HAS GENERAL APPLICATION.
9. BY ITS NATURE, IT LENDS ITSELF TO THE ELEMENT OF DRILL WHICH,THROUGH REPETITION, REINFORCES LEARNING.
10. IT IS NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE A BASIC PHONICS BASED READING PROGRAM, BUT TO COMPLEMENT IT.
11. SUCH A SMALL COST, BUT SO MUCH TO GAIN, YOUR CHILD'S FUTURE ACADEMIC SUCCESS!
12. MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT WORKS, AND IT WORKS WELL!
