Summary: Enjoyable Experience!
Comment: ... My sister and I reviewed a copy and ended up purchasing two books. I was impressed by the character of these two authors as well as their knowledge of civil war events. I enjoy reading the history of the civil war and found this book to be a delightful story of a youth growing up quickly under the duress of army service, with a humorous slant on the story. I have passed it on to my daughters as has my sister with her children.
Congratulations to these two authors and I hope they follow this work up with another book on the Civil War in the future; they live the history of this period and know it well!

Summary: Author Strikes Back
Comment: This book was intended as a fictional view on real facts, with an element of humor mixed in. In NO WAY was this intended to be an insult to Rush's Lancers. In a way, despite the subject of the book, it could be considered as honoring the real 6th, and all those other cavalry regiments that served with distinction during the War. We did extensive research beforehand into tactics, battles, and especially camp life. Besides, the age group we are trying to reach doesn't need reality. Rather, they need facts, with something they can laugh at. So what if the War was serious stuff? So what if Rush's Lancers was a distingushed regiment? Certainly they were not serious the entire time they were enlisted. Any well-researched account on camp life is bound to have something funny in it. That's the element we tried to bring out in The Insanity of it All, the funny side of the War Between The States. We only used a real regiment name because it stuck out in our minds. Because it was so famous, that's how it ended up in our book.

Summary: Great Book!
Comment: Yes the 6th PA cavalry was an actual regiment and yes this is not them, but if you look in the book it says right inside that this is based on history .but the 6th is a fictional regiment designbed to teach young people about a conflict...found it to contain a vast amount of actual information...is in no way insulting, to the contrary is a tribute to soldiers who without this kind of attention might be forgotten by most, and that would be a terrible loss. Overall I give it a 5 out of 5 because I liked it and found it to be verry accurate.
