Summary: Terrible
Comment: The story was awful. Just awful. Underdeveloped characters, boring storyline and just cheesy enough to make me cringe. I got this book on CD for a 15 hour drive and was sorely disappointed about 1/2 hour in. This isn't horror writing at its finest, that's for sure.

Summary: Very Chilling Book
Comment: This was my seventh Saul book. I first discovered him with The Right Hand of Evil. I don't think I can forget this book. The thing about crying was pretty powerful, so many parents cant stand children crying and they get yelled at hit and/or abused for crying. Also the Indian superstition was interesting whether or not its true. (I am very interested in folklore and superstitions as a study mostly.) And being from Los Angeles the "wind blowing" reminded me of the Santa Anas, which is mentioned in the book also.

Summary: Truly scary and suspenseful
Comment: This was the first book that I read by John Saul. This book was hard to put down. The characters were captivating. I also liked the folklore of the water babies and how it was tied into the story. From the fist chapter on you are hooked into this story. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the loose ends. For example, who took care of Christy after Miss Diana and why did the wind effect people. Also, why did Esperanza do what she did at the end. This is a must read and I look forward to my next book by John Saul.
