Summary: Be warned : ~This is not the Anime~
Comment: I first fell in love with the gravitation series through the fansubbed anime. The characters were great, and the story was awesome (not to mention the music). When I found out that the manga was being translated, I was thrilled. However, the manga is very much NOT the anime.
When you read this manga, you have to keep a few things in mind. First of all, the characters in the Anime and the characters in the manga vary greatly. Sure, Shuichi is still spastic and cute, but his personality is very much different. Plus, the Anime left out a few characters the managa has, including Shuichi's sister. The characters use a very american vocabulary, though outdated, so you'll kinda have to pretend that the story takes place a few years back. One of my favorite things about the manga is the fact that sex isn't so taboo (as it was in the Anime). The characters interact in a very real enviroment, and are always throwing jokes around (the kind that actually make you laugh out loud). I think the manga is much more real than the anime ever was. If you're a huge fan of the Anime, you may not be too thrilled with the manga. If you want to enjoy this, you'll have to read it as a SEPERATE story, and not the anime in a book.
As a stand alone (no anime involved), this series is amazing. The characters are well developed, the humor is great, the story is believeable (and not your typical shounen-ai), but.. the art is a bit lacking. You'll really have to focus on the story and look past some of Maki's artistic errors (such as characters viewed from the side). I would definately reccomend this manga to anyone looking for a funny, romantic, real story. Of course, you've got to be cool with the boy x boy theme.

Summary: Gravitation manga 1-5
Comment: Lots of things to say.
Murakami-san, you're too random and you change your main characters too often. It's frustrating how every volume or so the supporting characters change entirely; Shuichi's sister was one of the main characters at first, but I can't remember the last time I saw her. Bad Luck's manager changes at the drop of the hat. The story is like that, too. Hiroshi wants to leave the band. Yuki suddenly decides to dump Shuichi for the umpth time. Shuichi goes to New York. Her imagination flutters here and there while the readers gapes, and wonders where the last storyline plot suddenly went to.
Is it just me, or is Bad Luck fated to be forever chased by Nittle Grasper's ghost? They have the same manager, the same producer, Ryuichi wants to sing with Shuichi, Touma helped them out for a bit, and Noriko even pimped herself as their manager for a bit.
The art... is... so... bad! But once you get used to it, they actually come out handsome. And I love her Super-Deformed characters. I love it when Shuichi chibi-fies himself and attaches himself to Yuki's leg. I love Yuki's non-plussed-I'm-casually-smoking look. I love how in a single panel, if you look in the corner, K has traded heads with a horse.
Towards the later volumes, the art goes beautiful. Did Murakami-san learn how to use computers? Because I'm wondering why all the color pictures changed to computer art. Or did she get a new set of helpers? That would explain the sudden improvement in art. Actually, my main complaint with the artistic style in the first few volumes was the intense colors; the dark places are black black black and everything else is white. I like more grays and residual colors, as well as more careful shadow-ing. Which she didn't do, but does now. ^_^;.
Worthwhile, but lackluster art in the beginning volumes and little focus with storyline -- although it makes up somewhat with its bizarre, often hilarious sense of humour. It's not for everyone, so read it first.

Summary: A Wonderfull Romance Story
Comment: Ever since I have become an anime fan and fanfiction writer, I have been forever intrigued by Gravitation. I have heard many of my friends say it is a wonderful book, but I had never picked it up until now.
I was blown away by what I read. Sure, my first thought was Anime American Idol, but it isn't really about that. I mean, it is about Shuichi Shindou and his band Bad Luck trying to make it big, but it's mostly a romance story. Eiri Yuki got me so angry at first, but then as you learn his situation, you come to empathize with him. And as for those shonen-ai, shoujo-ai homophobes, I feel sorry for them. Because they are missing out on a beautifully written story. Anyone who has an open mind and an open heart MUST try this book!
