Summary: Another Visit to the Beautiful Country
Comment: This is a perfect companion piece to Chris Kent's The Boys of Swithins Hall though it seems more fantastic and fanciful in its depictions of boys responding to the relentless demands of puberty and adolescence. Chris Kent navigates the dangerous waters between pornography and the frankly erotic with deft assurance. You never feel that this is filth for filth's sake, but that filth like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What also appeals about Kent's work are the quality of the writing and the soundness of the dramatic plotting. It may be that these stories can never be filmed, but they play out wonderfully in the cinema of the mind. A great read that left me, like so many of the boys in the stories, wanting more, more, more.
