Comment: Excellent book! I read it several times and would recommend it to anyone who's interested in understanding teacher-student relationship as given by example of Gurdjieff's, Uspensky's, Orage's, Bennett's, as well as many others lives. Book is written as a chronological list of events, people, their perceptions and actions, and historical background on which it all took place. I believe it's the most objective account on life of these people taken from recorded sources. Patterson generously offers extensive reference list for anyone who's interested in more serious study of the question. He also, which is uncommon, kept his perceptions and much revealing incites on events only to footnotes and short essays at the end of the book, to allow a reader to have his own opinion and understanding of this fascinating story. There is much to be learned from this book in years to come.
