Summary: Sophisticated, provocative -- a real class-act.
Comment: This is a first-ever speculative fiction anthology of short works from writers on SFF Net. I found the story line-up remarkable, and the depth of the writing in every single case to be, seriously, several rungs above the standard fare in most magazine fiction. This is not a themed anthology. Rather, it is a gathering of intense thought-provoking, sometimes literary images and ideas. It's difficult to name favorites, but the piece that really stayed with me is a novelette "Dying He Dreams, Dreaming He Dies," by Jeffry Dwight, who also edited this anthology -- a compelling exploration of death. Other favorites include "Rift" by Kurt Roth, "The Dog-Faced Boy And The Amazing Winged Man" by Tippi N. Blevins, and "The Queen Of Mars" by Deborah Coates.
I recommend this anthology to anyone who is interested in intelligent literary speculation, and place it on even par with Patrick Nielsen Hayden's STARLIGHT series.
