Summary: It's that missing piece of your soul.
Comment: This book is absolutely fabulous. I balk at how other people can prefer clowns like Ginsburg and Smith to Exene. This book expresses in words things that I can only feel. I guess I am a bit biased, seeing as how I'm a fan of ALL Cervenka's work. But there are some beautiful little bits in here, words that comfort, anger, and help heal. Marvelous.

Summary: BRILLIANT COMMENTARY ON LIFE, LOVE AND LOST
Comment: Exene Cervenka is one of the greatest writers in recent history, unlike patti Smith who only writes obituaries, Cervenka writes about Life! Allen Ginsbuerg stated that CExene was one of the greatest writers of this cenurty and after reading this book, I have to agree. This book shows that i am not alone in this world and have someone that I can relate and identify with. Her writing is a comfort and a joy.

Summary: Maybe She Was Bored
Comment: This largely stream-of-consciousness collection of journal ramblings isn't really bad, but it isn't nescessarily good reading either. Published on 2.13.61, Henry Rollins' publishing company, it suffers from the same general malaise that Mr. Rollins' work most suffers from, and that is a lack of the graceful act of self-editing. That said, perhaps it deserves respect simply for the very fact that in-your-face, self-published punks had the all-out nerve to just go ahead and do it. After all, Ms. Cervenka is certainly one of the originals of the lets-get-this-perfectly-not-too-straight movement. Read it for the anger and angst, if you must. And for the strange little drawings. But any teenager from the 50's - now in America could have done as well. If it's stream-of-consciousness that is being sought, stick with Ginsburg or Patti Smith.
