Summary: A true artist's book
Comment: Don't let the minimal cover and slipcase fool you: this little book is a riot of, well, line, form and color. The wordless body of the book runs through permutations of lines, shapes, and color juxtapositions, exploring themes that run through Kelly's art of this period. It's beautifully produced--these are not photographs but rather printing with color (and some embossing) along the lines of what Kelly's book would have been if printed in the 1950s--and very elegantly presented in its slipcase with accompanying essay. A wonderful example of Ellsworth Kelly's art at a great price.

Summary: After 50 years, Kelly's project is comlpeted
Comment: A book first submitted by Ellsworth Kelly in 1951, it was not first published until 1999, to accompany another new book about Kelly- The Early Drawings. Kelly calls this book "an alphabet plastic pictoral elements", and in that he means expressing the very basic principles and elemnts of art- Line Form and Color, as said in the title. The book comes in two volumes- the first one- Kelly's simple designs cover each page with no text- except for the title and Kelly's 1951 letter, trying to get the book published. The second volume is a brief explination of his early work, including his first monochrome. I have never seen an art book so artistically created. The book dosen't give in to half-decent design- probably because it was designed by the artist himself. A great book for any art fan, and at very reasonable price.
