Summary: Helpful information, easily accessible, if you need it
Comment: "Terrorism and Kids: Comforting Your Child" does a great job of asking and answering the difficult questions children are likely to have concerning recent events. Fern Reiss keeps things simple throughout this book, whether she is developing strategies for helping your child cope or coming up with specific answers to specific questions they may ask. For a book like this to be of any use to parents, or their children, it needs to get right to the point. Clinical studies and real world case studies are of little importance in helping you to comfort your child. Every single "chapter" in this book is one or two pages long, which is a big plus. Reiss gets right to the point and keeps the focus on the goal of helping your children.

This book has an introductory section that sets up the uniqueness of terrorism as a subject to talk about with children. The section on strategies for helping you child not only gives advice on what to do to comfort your children but also what to look for to make sure things are working. There is a section on tailoring you approach to the age of your children that distinguishes between infants, preschoolers, elementary school children and teenagers. Answering Children's Questions looks at over a dozen questions from "Will we all die?" to "Will I ever feel normal again?" The last section talks about specific ways in which writing, drawing and playing can be therapeutic for your children. This book will help you find the advice and answers you need in whatever troubled times may lay ahead.

Comment: Thank you for getting this book out so quickly. It is needed so desperatly in these times. Children are asking so many questions that are hard to answer. They need to be reasured.
I also bought, After the Tears, A Gentle Guide to Help Children Understand Death. (video)
