Comment: Dr. Haykin was my Church History professor at Heritage Baptist College this past summer. He gave an introduction into the history of the Christian church, which in fact has now led me to believe that the Lord's calling in my life is the field of Church History.
When we came to the arena of Oliver Cromwell, the story came alive for me. Cromwell's life was one of intense struggle between right and wrong. The very fact that the Roman church dug up Cromwell's remains, severed his head, and hung stuck it on a pole for all to see convinced me that this man was great. So I wrote a paper outlining Cromwell's life. One of the main books that I used was Dr. Haykin's "The Spirituality of Oliver Cromwell", which is a great collection of Cromwell's letters that he wrote to friends, family, and peers.
Dr. Haykin writes a great introduction to the book outlining the life of Cromwell, and expounding on Cromwell's spirituality. Cromwell was a giant of the Christian faith, and hopefully will some day soon be recognised as such.
I strongly recommend this great book.
