Summary: interesante pero falta algo...
Comment: lo interesante de la novela es leer sobre las experiencias de chilenos exiliados en europa. los acontecimientos de la novela son en sí una seria de excusas para presentar los personajes en diferentes situaciones en la vidia cotidiana de un exiliado en otro pais. el mismo titulo y la sección sobre 'el jardin' casi no entra en la novela, hasta a veces parece que se lo añadieron los editores por la falta de sexo en la novela. leer este libro tambien requiere un conocimiento amplio de las novelas de la generacion boom de america latina, con referencias constantes a vargas llosa, julio cortazar y otros escritores de este generacion. realmente, este libro debe leerse por interes en la vida de intelectuales medio-exiliados de su pais, no para entender la realidad chilena ni la dictadura ni las carateristicas de la misma pais. good book, just inappropriately packaged.

Comment: In El jardin del al lado, Jose Donoso portrays a few months in the life of a Chilean "writer" and his wife who are in exile in Spain. The book follows the husband's struggle to write his own book and his inability to make the leap between the Chilean and Spanish cultures; it also deals with the generation gap. Donoso undertakes the task of showing the subjects' discomfort in any other country but their own quite easily. Try to get inside the minds of the characters and enjoy the ride!
