Comment: This is an absolutely stunning novel. Hanley writes in a manner which put me right there with these two lunatics ... men obsessed with being the 'best' at everything they try to do and with fixed notions of what a man should be ... machismo run amok.

I would not have read it had I realized in advance that it concerned hunting elephant for I object to unnecessary killing of elephants. And, thankfully, it is not actually about killing elephants. It is about men locked in psychological warfare with each other and within themselves. The writing skills of this author are enormous.
